In accordance with the \"Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and its Guidelines\" ratified by the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia on February 17, 1997, the Assembly of the Latvian National Commission for UNESCO has approved the nomination \"Kuld\u012bga Old Town in the Venta Senlej\u0101\" by Decision No. 6 of February 25, 2011. place in the Latvian national list of UNESCO World Heritage.<\/p>\n

In accordance with the regulations of the UNESCO World Heritage National List, the Kuld\u012bgas Municipality submitted an application for the nomination of Kuld\u012bgas to the Latvian National List of the UNESCO World Heritage by September 15, 2010, where the universal values of the special significance of the Kuld\u012bgas Old Town and the Venta Valley complex were substantiated in a new quality.<\/p>\n

The Latvian National List of UNESCO World Heritage, or the Preliminary List, was created with the aim of highlighting, identifying and popularizing Latvia's cultural and natural heritage, which, in the sense of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage, has universal value of special importance in the context of Latvian, European and world heritage and which is protected and passing on to future generations. This status is a stage on the way to a place on the main list of World Heritage, which would enable the city to attract additional resources in the fields of education, science and culture, stimulate the preservation and protection of the historical center of Kuld\u012bga, attract tourists, promote quality development of the city and the well-being of the residents. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to organize the city, develop management and development plans, identify the values of the city of Kuld\u012bga, preserve them and sensibly restore them. The cooperation of the city's residents, house owners, managers and the municipality of Kuld\u012bga region is very important.<\/p>\n

The historical center of the city of Kuld\u012bga and its buildings should be evaluated together with the unique natural landscape. The historical structure and nature of the city form an unrepeatable single ensemble, which is not similar not only in Latvia, but also elsewhere in Europe.<\/p>\n

Historically, the Venta river and the Venta waterfall have played an important role in the development of the city of Kuld\u012bga. Objects geographically connected to the Venta Valley are included in the World Heritage: Kuld\u012bga Old Town, Kuld\u012bga Castle Hill, Kuld\u012bga Castle and the Venta Canal.<\/p>\n

The nomination was evaluated in accordance with the regulations of the Latvian national list of UNESCO World Heritage, developed based on the implementation guidelines of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and the convention itself. Where necessary, the opinion of relevant institutions or organizations was requested, and experts in the relevant fields were also involved in the evaluation.<\/p>\n
